Traumatic closed head injury 2
Mechanism of coup contrecoup type injury to the brain at the cellular level. The illustrations depict rapid head motion upon impact and head rebounding. Grey and white matter move at different rates due to their weight difference. When the rapid motion occurs it leads to cell axonal shearing. Then atrophic changes to brain tissue occur, due to the shearing injuries. Subsequently leading to the death of the individual cell.
